Non-surgical Periodontal Therapy
Plaque and tartar (hard deposits) that are below the gumline can cause a condition known as periodontitis, which is an inflammation that can break down the ligaments and bone that support your teeth, creating deep pockets that foster the growth of more destructive bacteria. Treatment for this could be root planing which is a deep scaling or cleaning of the bacteria-filled pockets. This procedure usually does not result in significant discomfort and is performed using topical and/or local dental anesthetics. Afterwards, our patients frequently do not need to utilize any discomfort medications.
Scaling and root planing may also be provided in conjunction with antibiotic irrigation therapy which will assist in controlling the bacteria. The gum tissue is bathed and flushed with an antibiotic/antimicrobial preparation to kill bacteria and promote healing of the gum tissue.
Our hygienists will remove the hard bacterial deposits from beneath your gums and develop a personalized oral hygiene program for you. You will be instructed how to best maintain your oral health for long-term success in a tailored manner utilizing a variety of suggestions and oral hygiene aides.
